finishing photos

Here are a couple photo's of my first two finishes this year.
Hung the quilt on the cloths line on my screened in deck, but could not get the wind to cooperate.

And this is the Christmas wall hanging that is completed.

I am knitting wash cloths like crazy, it gives me something to do in the evening in the same room with hubby. Someday I can demote all my old wash "rugs" to the ragbag for cars washing.

I am about to finish a third UFO in fact I am big stitching with #12 Perle cotton I have all the lines of a cross hatch going one way and thought what is wrong with leaving it just one direction. Nothing really, except every time I look at it will I think "Slacker". Maybe I could just give it away so I don't see it. I'll let you know what I decide.

It has been another beautiful day and I keep thinking I should get a jump start on the leaf raking since I did absolutely none in the fall.

We had an eagle over the lake this week which is a little unsettling with small animals around, but my dog weights almost 20 lbs so I am not to concerned. I imagine it was eyeing the geese,ducks or fish in the water. I mention that because a dear friend lost a Yorkie to a coyote we assume possible bobcat right in it's back yard this past Saturday. Just killed it and left it lay. Probably would have come back for it if it could have. So sad.

Not much else going on here.
Guess I will eat some dark chocolate coffee beans and see if I can stay awake past 8 p.m.

Thanksgiving

I am Thankful to have a quilt finished that was begun back in about 1983. My daughter started it in her Aunt Linda(Brannock's) class. It was a sampler, quilt as you go, so I put on the borders and quilted in the sashing and it is now finished. Wow, how many years it that.?

Since this is my year to finish the unfinished, I am now starting to finish a Christmas wall hanging.
When we combine quilting and rug hooking's Christmas parties, I found I didn't need this gift, so I laid it aside. Now is the time to finish it.

One other thing today, I have discovered a wonderful book. If you read it and embrace it, you will be amazed how your Faith will grow. It is exciting to say the least.

My Personal Painter delighted me with His Son set this evening.

whoops I need to change my camera date.

Our weather has been unbelievable . We have been in the 60's, my goodness January in Missouri you just never know.

We have had company in and out all day. Today my husband turned 84 years old.
We ate lots of cake and I started looking on my camera for the pictures I took and than it dawned on me I took pictures on his daughters camera for her and none on my own. Now that's not good.

Knitting.

Even tho I am still on simple thing in knitting I am really enjoying it, kinda. You can't do primitive with knitting. You can't hide mistakes. So it is making me work my brain a little harder.

Pinterest.com is just a joy. It is like having a scrapbook of your favorite things at your finger tips.

I think I have a couple pictures from Christmas.
I have some from the shop today , some finished rugs, but don't have them uploaded. Will do that for the next post.
I have declared 2012 the year to finish unfinished projects. Work right along on the quilt of my daughters from 1980 something. It will be finished in 2012.

Well, I think I am ready for our big day which will be Thursday.
I did the grocery shopping this morning, early like 8 a.m.
It is now raining and my dear has a big crock pot full of venison chili going.
Yesterday, dear and I drove to the city 100 miles and visited his son, my sister, and my son. So by the time we got back home we were exhausted, but we had a good time.
I have some pictures of the shop Christmas party. The happy faces are the ones who like what they got and the not to happy faces are the ones who got what someone else wanted. What fun.

Someones musical basket just got stolen. Whoops.
There are not friends in this game.

She thought she was going to loose that beautiful wool appliqued journal. It really was pretty.
But she didn't loose it, she got to take it home.

I'm thinking she lost about three things she liked.

I think everyone had a good time. I have a purse picture to show you that Wendy our basket maker made. It is wool knit and then felted.

I think I am going to have to try this one.
The rest is random shots taken during the party.

Lovely work by one of our quilters, in fact it belongs to this lady.

Gathering with girlfriends is such fun and we had only one male drop in on us, but he was welcome.

Need to get busy, I need a wash cloth for a friends birthday that I will see at church tomorrow.

SISTERS

We had the best time today at Sister's Saturday at Cedar Grove Church.
Here is what we started with.

Sugar, flour,eggs,butter,and all the other things you can think of to put in cookies.
After we figured out how to put a food processor together,

We made cookies and candy.

We made Christmas ornaments.

We drank Chai tea.

We ate taco pizza.

We laughed our heads off.

We had a great Saturday with our Sisters in Christ.

Trying to get a few gifts finished up that will be used for Quilts for Christ at church, BOM group, and hooking group at the shop.
I finished the second one out of three today so I think I am going to make it.

Finished the binding on this manger scene after I took the picture. I did a little hand quilting on both.
I had to slip in a little project I saw on youtube just the other day. I ordered the yarn and a lot of my friends wanted to make one so we ordered more yarn and can you believe it is so popular it is on back order, may not get it till January, so there goes any idea's of making them for Christmas.

It is new yarn just came out in September. It is Paton's Piourette. Maybe I need to make a big city trip. Anyway it is so easy to make your only dealing with knitting six stitches. Anyone can do it.
Guess I will get busy in the morning and hand quilt the last project I have to do and I will be ready for the holidays.
Have a wonderful Thanksgiving. At my house it will be we three, well, four counting the dog. Husband, brother and myself. I kinda miss the big gatherings. Things change when you loose your parents and your children marry and you have to share with other sides of the family. But I am thankful mine are healthy and in His Grasp.

Searching for a pattern

I just received this email from a friend.

I have a request. I am looking for a quilt pattern. I believe that the name of the pattern is “Rush Hour at the Pond”. It has square fish of small, med and large sizes and cattails. It is not a large quilt. I wondered if you would mention it on your blog, in case one of your readers would know of it. I lost the picture of it that I had and I want to make a rug of it. I have spent hours on the Internet goggling everything that I can think of and have had no luck. Thanks a lot for your help.

You just never know when someone out there who sees this may have the pattern.

Well, yesterday on FB I posted about these great easy 7up biscuits, I got the recipe off Pinterest.

Some of my friends were asking if I delivered and what time they would be ready, because I said I was going to try them this morning. So I just posted 8 a.m. and guess what, someone showed up.

Hard Core Thrift Store Shopping

Well, yesterday was the much exciting Thrift store shopping trip with the women of the church that are into thrift shopping.
We left Warsaw about 8 a.m. How far out of town do you think we got before we needed a bathroom break??

We got to Liberty, Missouri, and jumped right in to shopping. This is our store manager,it was such an organized shop. She let us go to the warehouse and everything was boxed up and labeled and we got to take boxes down and go through them. While we were doing that they were stocking the store again. After shopping the warehouse everyone was hungry, so we all (11 of us) went to lunch.

Good food was consumed by all.

Then it was back to shopping. We all went from store to warehouse back to store about 3 times. It was great.

Then it was a matter of loading the bus.

And a little clowning around on the way home at one of our snack stops.

We made it home safe and sound, thanks to our great driver Angela.

I picked this up for my daughter. It isn't old but she loves white. So Robin if you like it I will bring it next time I am up.

Blogging Slump

Well, I did get a winner and the box is in the mail as of this morning thanks to my hubby.
I really haven't been doing much other than Dr. visits. Last Thursday was a 6 a.m. Colonoscopy. glad that is over. Yesterday was blood tests and chest x ray. Tomorrow is a dentist visit due to a broken tooth and Thursday is a Dr. visit for test results. To much going on this week haven't even gotten out to the lodge to see all my hooking friends, they are there for the week. I know they must have a fire going in the huge fireplace, because we have had rain for days on end now.
I made a loaf of banana walnut bread today, put it in the freezer. May husband can give it away faster than I can make it. I may have to threaten him, I'm trying to get ahead for Christmas.

I did start a little wall hanging today, here is a picture. It's small 18x21 but I just loved the pattern.
I ordered our Thanksgiving Dinner from our local grocery store yesterday. Can't see doing all that cooking for three of us.
Guess I will talk to you later after my tooth drilling tomorrow.

One more border to go on the fall quilt and I will be ready to start some Christmas projects. Can you believe it is just around the corner.

My sister has had a successful knee replacement. Hoping for her to get back on her feet soon, so I can go up and sew with her.

Thursday is another girl day for some of us down here. A friend who for 9 months has been taking a sister three times a week for dialysis has now found other transportation through her sisters assisted living, so she is so ready to have a girl day.
We don't even have a destination, but we are just taking off for the day.

Than Friday, some of the shop girls are going on a bus tour shop hop in Oklahoma and Arkansas and Missouri, for three day. They will have great fun and bring home idea's no doubt. The rest of us will stay and keep the shop so they can get away and see other quilt shops. Ladies remember you are ladies. Just had to throw that in.

Now to top that off I went into the shop today and someone from my church had left me a Warm up to Wool project book. The girls couldn't remember who left it, so I am hoping if whoever left it, reads my blog they will identify themselves to me , so I can thank them.

On again, off again, on again.

My title describes my Internet. They called last Thursday, after two no shows and said we fixed it here in the office, or something like that, my husband took the call. It worked fine until this morning and it just wasn't there when I turned it on. Came home from church and it was fine. So frustrating.
I now have 8 completed blocks of my 16.
This is the only one with the moon on it.

And this is one of the three with a pumpkin on it.

I really love the applique.

That is really about all I have been doing.
My brother has been sick with the flu all week, so I haven't even had company for dinner. He finally gave up and went to the Dr. yesterday, so I hope he is on the mend soon.
Wednesday we do the VA again and on and on we go.
The shop is involved in a shop hop this week end so it will be a busy 3 days .
I am so loving the cool weather.

I have an excuse

First of all I'll show you my quilt blocks I have been working on. 2 done out of 16.

It is Blackbird Designs, Hallowe'en 1904

I have been having Internet problems since last Sunday. I have done all the interference checking in the house, so they dispatched a tech for last Thursday and he never showed. I called Friday morning to find out the dispatch ticket was not handled right and so there really was not one dispatched. So as I wasn't going to be home Friday or Saturday and my husband didn't want to be bothered with it, I am scheduled Monday. It comes and goes and when it goes it can be gone for a day and a half or two days. I have actually toyed with the idea of just shutting it off completely, cause I get so much more done, but my husband doesn't want me to because he knows I will be wanted to watch things on his TV like "Pickin Sisters" and Ree "The Pioneer Woman's" cooking show.
My husband seems to be doing OK physically but mentally he is depressed, he has lost 3 close cousins in the last month, so it is best I stick close to home.
So maybe I will get this quilt done by Halloween. NOT. There are 3 pumpkins, 6 leaves, 3 vines, and 52 stars to be appliqued . I really am loving the applique tho.

Well, as you may well know, yesterday was the first annual hook in and rug show sponsored by Saltbox Primitive Woolens.
What a great and fun time we had. I will leave you with some rug pictures as I am still tired and going to bed really early.

Almost two weeks

Gosh has it really been almost two weeks since I posted.
I did get my basket finished.

I hope everyone had a safe holiday.
We were here at home except for yesterday morning we went up the highway to a new little cafe in Lincoln and had a great breakfast.

Well, Saturday is the hook in so I hope to have lots of new rug pictures to show you.

Patty's sister Linda who has lived in Indep. for some years now has moved back to Warsaw upon her husbands retirement. She wants to have chickens and goats, sounds like a real farm girl doesn't she. So we pooled our money and got her a chicken. Now for a rooster to wake her up every morning.

I live about an hour from Whitman Air Force base where they house the stealth bomber. Tonight the guys are out in the fighter jets practicing, I assume. Pretty awesome to see them going over your house.

Busy, Busy

Things are getting so busy at the shop in preparation for the Truman Lake Rug Show and Hook In. We have much to do and are really getting excited. Here is the run down.
Sept 10, 2011
9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Warsaw Community Bldg. Warsaw, Missouri
cost is $15.00
We have some great vendors coming.
Wendy Miller, Anita White, Maggie Bonanomi, Melissa Towns, Renee Nanneman, Ewe and Eye,
Sherri Demate.
The rug show will be open to the public and separate from the Hook In.
Hope to see you there it will hold many surprises.

Here is the peony chair pad, I won the pattern from Wicked Wool.

The next rug is from Sandy who does our newsletter. She took a picture of her brother and made it into a rug. It is finished and will be at the rug show. Also if you would like to get the news letter just send me an email and I will get you on the list.

We also received some Jo Morton fabric and here are a couple quilts samples that are being made.

I think I got that picture sideways, or we have tile on the wall.

This last quilt is one of mine I am working on.

A few finishes

I have gotten a few things finished in the last couple day. This little wall hanging for Halloween and yes I machine quilted it. It's not the best but it was a learning experience that killed my wrists. I think my machine would have to be on a lower table to do much more of it.

Here is a lap quilt for church I took in Sunday.

This is the BOM I picked up Saturday. Only two more months and we will start making the sashing and putting it together.

Marie brought in something she is working on that is truly unique. She took a picture of a house that had been in the family for over 100 years, had it enlarged , than made a pattern and than cut it out of fabric. It was amazing.

It is not appliqued. It is put down with heat and bond I think and than will be quilted over. Marie is a long arm quilter so it will be outstanding when she is finished.
Had to take the dog in to the vet this morning. He had something bothering his tail and it was just driving him nuts. We had to put a muzzle on him and the vet found a blister at the base of his tail closest to his body. She popped the blister and we are putting medicine on it. Yes we have to use a muzzle when we do. Hope it heals fast. Apparently it was some kind of bite.

Jan Patek Trunk Show

Some of us gals took off yesterday evening for the Jan Patek trunk show, about an hour and a half from Warsaw. We had a great time. I did take lots of pictures but most of them were to dark, due to my camera. Are you thinking what I am thinking, New Camera. Anyway here they are.

All the big quilts came out to dark to see.
Very interesting learning what all was in the quilts that mean something to Jan and her family.

A Few Rugs and stuff

We had a couple different rugs at hooking last Friday that I don't think I have show you before.

I love the blue house and the puppy. Sorry I didn't get her name.

This is a rug for the shop I finished.

This quilt is on it's way to Joplin, Missouri

Finished a quilt top for the Quilt ministry at church.I have 3 at the quilters right now, and six more sitting here waiting to go. These are 36x45 or 45 x 65 in size.
Didn't want you all to think I was some kind of quilt top making whiz kid.

This is the last of the barn blocks, than I can decide how I plan to set them together and with what.

Tomorrow is another trip to the VA for hubby. It is suppose to be only 92 tomorrow, so that helps.

Next project is Hannah's Summer Wedding Quilt a Robyn Pandolph design with all her faded pastel flowered fabric. I bought this as a kit from a friend and she had already made the 24 pieced blocks, I will share when I make some progress on the triangles that join the blocks, It is going to be so pretty.
Try to stay cool. It is already 81 degrees at 8 a.m. Just to hot.

The past week.

Trying to get caught up on reading every one's adventures, but I am so far behind I think I'm ahead.

Got to go to Trader Joe's while at my daughters. In fact we went twice, because we had to get a cooler and ice and go back so we could bring stuff home without it melting. Than look what I got for a birthday gift when I got home.

It is a big insulated bag with handles and wheels. Thanks Joan. Now, I am so ready to go back. Everything we have tried that we bought I have liked. My husband is another story, he is afraid it is health food. So let him think that right.

So here is one side of the new do. Not a very good picture, I took it myself. I have never had a shampoo and scalp massage like it in all my life. It was wonderful.

I keep forgetting to tell you Saltbox Primitive Woolens is sponsoring a hook in and rug show at Truman Lake in the community bldg in Warsaw on Sept 10th. We will have some vendors from around Missouri . Patty and all the Flock have been working very hard to pull this off. You will be surprisingly entertained. More to come later on that subject.

This is another gift from my daughter. Also a Vera Bradley purse with birds on it. Don't know why I didn't take a picture of it.
I don't know if any men read my blog, but this is just for the women. My friend and I are saving our money and we are going to go to one of those places that fit you for a bra. I just thought at 70 years of age it was time to get them up off my waist line. Is there such a thing as a comfortable bra??

This is the basket we are making on August in a class at the Saltbox. But before I take the class I am going to stain the last one I made.
Picking up a queen size quilt from the quilter tomorrow, binding it and it is on it's way to Joplin with the last teddy bear I have that my folks made. I know they would rather some child had it to hug, than for it to be sitting on a shelf getting dusty at my house.

I am headed to my daughters with a girlfriend Thursday to get a new hairdo, my daughter is treating me to for my birthday. And yes we are going to try to get in Trader Joe's. I understand it has been a little crazy since the new stores have opened. But I have never been in one so am going to take a sneak peek before the gals road trip when the weather cool. It has just been awful here all week. Right now my computer says 99 degrees.

Friday at the shop

Actually this was taken last night, but Sharyn has been stitching on this quilt top and now has it bordered.

Way to go Sharyn, we missed her at hooking day at the shop today. I understand she was fishing, I hope she had an air conditioned dock. It is just to hot outside to do anything. It is 6 p.m. and it is still 95 degrees.

I will show you rugs tomorrow after I get home from the shop and going by to see Patty's newest grandson Ozzie.

New Projects

Starting a couple projects for myself.
This is on the design wall , just needs sewn together.

Here are a couple blocks from a quilt I am making with birds from Sandy Gervais fabric. I love these birds and the way they are cut different, and bordered different. Right up my alley.

There are 6 different birds used 2 times each, I think I am really going to like this one. I have four more birds to border, so happy fourth to everyone.

Well, I will show you as many pictures as I got at the hook in Saturday.

The rug above is all hooked with nylon stockings she has dyed. It was very interesting.

The above was part of a memory rug of an old school house and lots of kids playing, here is the sliding board.

I really like this flag and would like to hook it.
So that was all the pictures I got because my husband called that our refrigerator quit working. It is 21 years old and we knew it wasn't working up to par, so off he and I went to Lowe's to buy a new refrigerator and while we were there I picked up some new kitchen faucets the one with the sprayer in the faucet and I am having them installed tomorrow. Next up new kitchen lighting.
I need an electrician, shall I call my son or my x husband. You guess, neither one. For obvious reasons not my x and my son is working 6 days a week so I will give him a day of rest. Don't have them yet so not to worry. Doesn't sound like I am planning on moving anytime soon does it?
I have been getting in a little yard work each day that it isn't raining or over 90 degrees.

I am finally up and out of bed from the sore throat, head congestion, cough I have had since last Friday. It is a good thing, we have a hook-in at the shop Saturday and I have cupcakes to make and I don't even have a project to work on. I did win a pattern from Wicked Wool Primitives last week and looking for it to get here in time to start on Saturday. Here is the pattern. It is a primitive peony so I am looking a pink for the peony.

Also just had to show you my Valerie and her birthday present, along with her mom and dad. Can't believe she is 12.

His name is Milton. Can't wait to meet him.

Also my husband is talking about looking for a different place to live. He is thinking about Greenwood, I am thinking Martin City.
We might do some looking or it just might be a phase since he is unhappy with the sewer commission here from which someone stole the money and the neighbors sewer pump went on the blink and they were told there were no pumps to replace theirs with. And we are paying 54.25 a month for the sewer system that was put in. I really think I liked you septic tank better, NO CHARGE,

Quick post today. I have been busy piecing quilt tops for church. Some of the gals from the Saltbox have given me their scraps.
Here is one I am finishing today as soon as I get a little more brown for the last border. The chickens and the chicken feet print were in the scraps and I built from there.

Of course I always have plenty of help.

I also finished another Maggie B block this is #7

Ok gotta go, I have a mammogram appt, they are watching a spot at the lumpectomy site. Pray it is only dysplasia.

I just had a whole post done and lost it. So now this is going to be just picture more or less, I have to get ready to go to the Saltbox.
Here is my brother who comes down for dinner. Oh by the way he has a birthday this coming Friday so am trying to think what to fix for his birthday dinner.

I would like to say my husband is doing somewhat better. Drove himself to McDonald's for breakfast burrito's this morning. Food is always a good motivator with him.
Now if I don't lose this during spell check all will be good.

I hope everyone is having a safe and enjoyable Memorial Day.

My brother is coming down for dinner tonight. Down, meaning three doors down.

I needed a couple things from the store and my husband felt like he wanted to go to the store for me so off he went with my 4 item list. When he returned he pulled in the driveway honking the horn on his truck. Knowing he probably wanted help bringing in the four items(plus his sweets he needed) I jumped and headed to the garage. It is cement all the way so didn't put on any shoe, all tho I never go bare foot any more. I know what you are thinking. SNAKE. You got it. Now I would have gone back and gotten a camera, but I was doing some pretty high stepping about that time and just didn't think about it. Granted it was a young black snake pretty long tho, but my husband was not as gracious to it as I was the one I found earlier this spring.

So what else has been going on here?.
I have 4 quilts to go to the quilter this week for church. Actually I have a 5th but don't have the backing ready. Here is the one I did yesterday when I got home from church.

I had been given a panel with four different birds, so I am breaking it down into 4 lap quilts. Remember this is all donated fabric, so I am not running out buying anything, just using what they have available. I hope the person that receives this quilt likes birds and has a good pair of sunglasses.

Yesterday as far as food is concerned, was let it all hang out day. So don't look JOAN. Pork tenderloin and fries.

Finally

I have been trying to get on to post for 2 days now and could not get to my dashboard. Might have been on my end but was not having trouble with anything else.
I spent yesterday in bed, having had a little fever and itching rash all over so I took a pill the DR gave me for eczema I've been dealing with and I slept all day, with the exception of meals and bathroom trips, in bed. I think the new stronger creme he gave me may have set the whole thing off. Anyway feel better today.

Wondering if any of you quilters have tried this.

I like it just as well as Mary Ellen's best press and without the expense and I found it at Wal Mart. Just thought I would mention it.

Here is a shot of my husbands quilt, it's so hard to get it all when it is on the bed.

How in the world do you store those queen size blow up mattresses? That is what is sticking out from under his bed. You sure can't put them back in the boxes they came out of, can you?
Don't know what else is new. We certainly dodged a bullet a couple days ago, when Sedalia got hit with the tornado. That is where I was Monday when I went to the Dr. That is only 30 miles away. I watched some of the video's of the Joplin tornado
and than went to the store to buy some of the things I would most think I would need if I were in one and survived and took them to a collection point here in Warsaw. It is unbelievable and heart wrenching what a tornado can do.
My heart and prayers go out to all those effected.
Help your fellow man if you can.

Binding Binding and more Binding

I think I have the binding of my husbands quilt mastered.

Got it finished and it is on his bed. Do you know how hard it is to take a picture of a quilt laying flat on a bed. Maybe I will remember to take it out on the deck Monday when the bed is torn up for sheet laundering day and get a picture of it.

Had another VA appt. got there and back in one piece. Had a nice lunch at Golden Coral. My husband loves Buffets. Me not so much, but the chicken I had was really good. As was the chocolate brownie.

I got the May BOM finished.

I have also been following a May fab shop hop on the net. 157 different shops, and you would know I would run into something I have been wanting for a long time to make, and never knew if I could gather the right fabric, but found a kit for a "Fight Like a Girl" Pink quilt. You can bet I got that order fast. It is actually a wall hanging 36 1/4 by 43. It just makes me smile.

Tomorrow is work at the shop day for me. We are making gifts for all who come to the June hook in on the 25th.
So I am spending this evening making a wool applique pillow case for hubby's bed.

We made it yes sirree, all the way to the VA on I-70. Of course, we have to go 40 miles before we even get to I-70. But, we were early, which is customary if you travel with my husband, and they took us early so we were headed home about the time of our first appt. I like that place.
Took some back road coming home and didn't fair so well.

Yep caught a rock, so that has been fixed and we are off to the VA again this coming Tuesday. All the oxygen studies they did came out not so bad. Which means he does not need oxygen here at the house. So Tuesday they are going to do an echo cardiogram and something else.
Today I went to the Dr. I used to hear people say the only social life they had as they aged was going to the Dr. I think we are there.We did enjoy our favorite Chinese place on our way home Tuesday.

Caught up

I believe I am caught up now.
I got the primitive marine wall hanging done, it is going to a young marine who is a nephew to http://blessedmomssimplehome.blogspot.com and lost both legs to an IED in Afghanistan the first of April. I hope he enjoys it.

There are some quilted stars in the red stripes you can't see the rest is stitched in the ditch. I think it will make a Marine smile. He is being transferred from Bethesda, Maryland, to his home state of California so he will be closer to family. He is married with a child, so keep him and all the rest in your prayers.

I also finished just a small mat for my table on the deck, I had to see if I could do all those stitches on my machine.

Than I finished the third block on Maggie B's Settlers Pride bed cover.

And I finished "Old Glory".

OK I think I am ready for the next round.

Debbie is doing a lot better. Tires easy but blood count is up to 10.
Patty is having some health issues and is going to be checked out in Springfield, we will keep you posted. The shop will be open for business as usual, so if you had planned to come hook on Friday, come right ahead, some of us will be there doing our best while she is away.

Going AWOL

I'm going to be off post(blogger) for a bit.
I am trying to get my rug finished, a gift for a Marine finished so I can mail it. I'm trying to finish up bindings and labels on church quilts. All little things that I can no longer put off, plus the BOM's that keep coming in. Am I getting overwhelmed not yet, nor do I want to.

I stopped at a couple thrift stores on the way home from my Dr. appt and found these brand new sheets that will work on my bed this fall.

I bought a couple FQ of fabric off the net because I just loved this fabric. Wild and completely out of character for me. Oh well, time they are a changing .

Here is a cute little pattern I got for this fall.

What am I doing?

I am tired. Husband having some troubles and the VA wanted him to come to Columbia 2 hours drive away to give them a urine specimen. SAY WHAT. They have a small clinic in Sedalia 32 miles away, that is where we ended up. But that kinda shot my plans for the day which were to quilt on my quilt.
Here is a little more Pandolph fabric that goes with the kit I got.

I told you I bought another kit from my friend and it is by Jan Patek called Birdsong.

So that is a distant future project.

I did finish block two on the Settlers Pride bed topper by Maggie B.

Didn't get a very even picture but you get the idea.

Debbie was at the shop a bit today. She looks kinda pale but she will soon be 100% again. Thank you Lord.

Starting to hear some thunder, I think we are suppose to get some weather so will close for tonight.

Good news and new projects.

First off, Debbie we believe is on the mend. She had several scopes done yesterday and they found what they called an "impressive" bleeding ulcer. She had to have several more units of blood, but since yesterday evening her count has started to come up. We are so relieved, we have missed our Debbie.

I have been making a little progress on my "Old Glory" rug.

I also have a couple new project to start, just don't know how soon I will start them. This project was started by a friend but not finished, so now it is mine. Look at some of this wonderful fabric. Robyn Pandolph.The pattern is called Hannah's Summer Wedding Quilt.

Ok, that's it for tonight. I have another one to show you I bought from the same person and I have my eye on another, but that will keep till another day.
Right now I am headed to the bedroom with a book I started yesterday and can hardly put down.. The Help by Kathryn Stockett.

Wool Hooked Rugs

Last Friday was hooking day at Saltbox Primitive Woolens. Here are a few pictures. But first here is our resident rabbit ready for some fun.

This is Sharyn , we caller Rabbit Queen because she raises rabbits. She keeps us hopping(whoops,no pun intended)

This is such a cute bouquet Patty made. There is a story behind it but I will let her tell it on her blog. Ok never mind I'm going to tell you, she was trying to make sheep but they turned into flowers. Cutest mistake I have seen in a long time. Love it.

I am sorry I have forgotten this gals name, but she is about to finish a beautiful floral rug.

These next two rugs are just in the beginning stages. The "Flock" members are each designing a rug for the Truman Lake Rug Show. Some have gotten there's started and some of us still only have them in their heads. Me being one of the latter.

This is the beginning of Marsha's, I showed her pattern in a previous post. It was all sunflowers. The color in this one is beautiful in person.

This belongs to Bev and it is really big. Different quilt blocks depicting places and things in her life. Hurry Bev September will be here before you know it.

I guess I should try to get mine from head to monks cloth in the near future.

This is just a garage sale purchase I forgot to show you last post.

Well, it is 6:30 a.m. Sheets are in the dryer and washer. Shower taken, hair fixed, ready for a Wal Mart run for some groceries.
I want to quilt at least one block on my quilt today and make some more windmill blocks. Who has time to cook.

garage sale and sadness

I forgot to tell you while I was raking leaves the other day I ran onto a snake. Brown with an orange neck ring. I told him if he would eat all the ticks and fleas in my yard I would not kill him, he agreed. Next time I see him he had better be a lot bigger from all the eating.

I am going to show you the things I found at sales today, they will be self explanatory except maybe the last one.

Some of the tiniest gourds I have ever seen. The largest is maybe 3 inches. I don't know if they were grown as miniatures or picked immature, but you can hear the seeds rattle inside them.

The Sad.

My granddaughter Megan has a half sister. An 18 year old Senior in high school, that took her own life Wednesday. We are shocked , devastated and heart broken. Tomorrow is the memorial service, please keep the Hanson Family in your prayers.

Well, we made it. As we got in the car to start out my husband says " you want to take I-70 or the back roads. WHAT, there are back roads. Of course we took the back roads, all the hills and curves. We came back I-70, just seemed like it would be much faster.

I know this is probably a weed to the farmers but it was oh so pretty.

It just reminded me of "purple mountains majesty".

I see since I cleaned my camera card I didn't reset the date.

Ok I am off to the garage sale across the lake and then on the rug hooking for awhile.

Maybe I will have some good pictures when I get home.

Beautiful Day

Well, it is not even 10 a.m. yet and it is already 61 degrees. Looks like I might get that side yard finished raking today.

This morning hubby and I went on his little paper run.

Here is Jim the owner and Tammy an employee filling the back of the truck with papers to be delivered to a couple stores that sell them. Fun little outing at 7 a.m.

I have gotten two blocks quilted on my hearts and stars quilt.

The quilting isn't perfect but not to bad for the shape my hand are in. I'm using a Hera marker for the straight lines and really do like it. This is also one of my sister's(Linda Brannock) patterns. I have two from this pattern. One we made together at her studio out of her fabric. I am saving it to quilt later after I have practiced on a few first.

Nothing much else going on. Here is my healthy lunch. Brown rice,quinoa, peas. Really is yummy.

I had an immature eagle in my back yard eating a fish yesterday. But I knew I could not get my camera and open the door and walk across the deck to get up to the screening without scaring him off. One less crappie in the lake.

Well, tomorrow we are off to the VA in Columbia, wish me luck as I hate I-70 and the 18 wheelers. On second thought Pray.

There were a few garage sales in the paper today, most of them starting Friday. There is one across the lake from me with fabric for a dollar a yard advertised. I'll let you know if it was worth the trip.

What do you do

when you aren't even half way through a Nascar race and the electricity goes off. Run and pay the bill? Kidding. That is what happened here this afternoon. We have had so much wind no doubt a major factor in the outage. So with no TV I told my husband I'm just going to sew this back for the quilt I am going to start hand quilting. You have a machine that doesn't use electricity was his come back. How easy to forget how dependent we are. So never mind I need to use the shop vac on the screened in deck, because that is where I will be sandwiching my quilt. Again can't be done. So we spend the afternoon visiting with each other. It is amazing how little time is spent doing that in a busy world.
Yesterday was BOM at the shop, I went down for a couple hours. This is block #4

I have 3 quilts for church ready to go to the quilter, this is the one I have shown earlier, but finally got it bordered.

Along with the wind we had 86 degrees today. I really don't like anything over 70 so hopefully it will cool down some before my brother comes up to help me get a few plants in the ground before the end of the month. Tomato's , peppers, pumpkins,zucchini, radishes, hosta, lots of herbs. That list looks awful ambitious to me. Wish I was 20 years younger when it comes to gardening. Otherwise I like my age.

Since I have taken over the kitchen duties,(hubby used to do all the cooking) I am also changing dishes. We always had those big Corella dishes, the plates must have been 12 inches across and I really never liked them. They have been put up and I am using all my miss matched dishes that I love. These are my favorite.
They have some writing on the bottom of the saucer but I can't make out anything but 22 k gold and Heritage, but am having no luck finding anything on the Internet.

I dearly love these. I also have some my mother bought when she was pregnant with my brother and he is 63 years old. They are the yellow rose ones I showed a couple posts back.

So when the electricity came on we turned on the air and cooled the house down, now I am ready to hook on my rug. This is the longest it has ever taken me to hook a rug. Quilting projects keep getting in the way., Oh yes it is time for the new magazine to be shipped out, in fact I should get it this week. I can't wait for Primitive Quilts and projects to get here. I really should finish my rug before I open the magazine, all tho it will have hooking projects in it I'm sure I will want to do , so yes I do need to finish this rug I am on now.
So much to do so little time.

I want to share with you an exciting, upcoming event. Saltbox Primitive Woolens is hosting a Rug Show and Hook In on September 10, 2011 from 9:00-3:00 at the Warsaw Community Building in Warsaw, Missouri.

Cost of registratation is $12.00 before July 31st, and $15.00 after July 31st. Contact me at Saltbox Primitive Woolens shop for registration. The cost includes admission, snacks, drinks, and door prizes. Lunch will be available on site.

A prize will be awarded for Best of Show for all rugs entered in the rug show. Vendors on site will include: Wendy Miller, Anita White, Maggie Bonanomi, Melissa Towne and more! I will post more on these vendors later.

The rug show will be open to the public and separate from the Hook In.

Memory

I really dislike it, when at my age, someone starts a sentence with,"do you remember". BUT do you remember when I blogged about going to Primitive Quilts and Projects blog and becoming a follower and being entered to win a pattern. Did I ever tell you I was one of the winners. I just finished it this afternoon.

Yes, I see there is a pin in it, but it really is finished.
I've also finished block #1 of Maggie Bonanomi bed topper. I love it so.

I was by the shop today and Debbie is working on a new rug she calls Wildcats.

Above is the beginning of another baby quilt, also doing a patriotic one.

Guess that's it for now.
Tomorrow I take my hubby and do his little paper delivery route. He just pick up bundles at the newspaper office and delivery them to the local grocery store and mini mart. Gives him something to look forward to .

Sunday snow shower

Well, I guess if I am going to title my blog post that way I should at least have taken a picture. It's cold 34 degrees and yes we did get a snow shower, nothing stuck goody goody.
I have finished a quilt, this picture was taken before I got the narrow border on it, but it is finished. I really like it. I cut 2 1/2 inch pieces off yardage when I bought it until I had enough.

I've also been working on a couple wall hangings and have two baby quilts for church ready to go to the quilters. I will try to remember to take pictures after they are quilted and bound.

I made myself a new pillow case for my bed. Old crocheted lace and some of the old pillow ticking I found at a thrift store some time back.

Not to much else going on. I did have company for dinner the other night.

Had my brother come up and eat with us, he is such a big help to me. Fixed a platform for hubby's chair so it is easier for him to get in and out of.
That picture is somewhat blurry.
Anyway looks like April will be full of Dr. appt. He has one at the VA in Columbia which mean 1 1/2 hours driving on I-70. not my favorite road but the Lord goes with us, so we will be fine.
I have my 6 month appt. with the oncologist and mammogram to look at a place at the lumpectomy site that needed rechecked. They are thinking it is just dysplasia. Praying it is so.

Putting faces to blogger friend.

First if all, hubby is doing somewhat better. Dr. believes we are having congestive heart failure. But he is on a walker and doing better.
Saturday was the hook in at the shop and I had two bloggers coming I have never met. So I went down for a couple hours.
This is my bosom buddy Sheri of shabbysheep.blogspot.com , we are both breast cancer survivors.

See the owl I am holding? Sheri made it for me with wool and felted sweaters. And below is Sheri's colorful cat, how cool is that.

Also a blogger friend I had never met. Is Tammy of skiptomyewe.blogspot.com. Look at her colorful rugs that will hang in 3 panels designed by her husband.

I think everyone had a great day.
I know lunch was great, I got there in time for that. Funny how that happened.

Here is Marsha with her log cabin rug and matching stool cover. The foot stool is 70 years old made by her grandfather. What an heirloom.

Being Scarce

Friends and Family. My husband has apparently had a tiny stroke or TIA, had in ER yesterday 5 1/2 hours. He is really weak so on a walker. It's March already.

I went to my first of the year garage sale last Thursday. Lots of nice stuff there, just didn't need a lot myself. Patty and Peggy went with me and my trunk was full when we left the sale, but not with my stuff, here is what I bought.

Actually I bought 2 hand rake small garden tools, but they are in the garage and I am to lazy to go out and take a picture of them. So after a statement like that, how much use do you think they are going to get. Oh the spirit is willing but the body is weak.

I am doing some hand quilting in big stitch on a fabric and wool quilt, with #12 perle cotton. I am making pretty good progress and am liking doing it and the way it looks.

I also started a new quilt.

I saw this quilt in "Jelly Roll Quilts" by Pam and Nicky Lintott and wanted to make it immediately. It is made with a Jelly roll called Celebrate Spring by Sandy Gervias. But, by the time I saw it you couldn't find the jelly rolls any where, so I have just been cutting 2 1/2 inch stripes off any fabric I had, and finally have enough to start making the quilt. I have two blocks done so far.

I only have 37 more to make. Honestly I don't have all the fabric cut yet, but I just had to put a couple together. Standing and cutting the fabric just gets to my back.
I made it to hooking yesterday but late and didn't take my hooking. I finished up a embroidery barn block. We sold the motor home (PTL) so we were doing paper work and bank work all morning.
I do have a couple hooked rugs from the week before I don't think I had shown you.
Joan is making this as a wedding gift. The colors are beautiful.

This picture has nothing to do with hooking, quilting, or the shop. It is all the doves my husband feeds in the yard. When the dog got a runny nose and cough last week and he had to go to the vet they said birds are one of the biggest carriers of a disease dogs can get, but I forgot the name of it. Next year the bird feeders are being moved to outside the fence. Of course the dog is getting his vaccines. Can't have anything happening to my walking buddy.

Busy Kind of

Can't really tell you that I have done a lot but the days sure seem to go by fast.
I did hand quilt a Christmas wall hanging. I guess you could say I am ahead of the game for Christmas 2011. I haven't hand quilted since the 80's with my sister, so I need lots of practice.

This is a start to a baby quilt my friend Peggy is making.

It is going to be so cute.

Hooking day was last Friday, this is a rug Bev is working on.

This is part of the Friday hooking group, behaving themselves for a minute or two.

I'm not sure how that ringer got in there that isn't hooking.
I see that picture says 08, but I guess I need to reset something since the picture was actually taken 2/25/11.
Some of the gals went on up to Independence to spend the night at Patty's sisters and on to Lenexa on Saturday to the Rock Creek Hook in. Some of our other gals tried to go up Saturday morning from Warsaw and ran into ice about 30 miles out of Warsaw and turned around and came back. It reached 64 degrees today. If this keeps up I will be ready to start arranging my deck.

First things first. Valerie took second place in the U.S. open championship for Taekwondo forums. We are so proud of her.

Peggy and I spent two days running around Johnson County Kansas. We found the Kansas City Star warehouse book sale. I picked up a few. Just can't beat half price.

We found an interesting place called Fabric Outlet, It was a little bit of everything, but no fabric on bolts. I asked if the owner was going to estate sales and auctions and she said no it was all things people were bring to her they didn't use or were cleaning out of their stash. Don't know if it will go our not, but it is a good concept. I bought a few templates for hand quilting.

We visited Whole Foods and got things for dinner and this dessert. Carrot cake, I can't believe I ate the whole thing.

I didn't find any real thrifty treasures. I picked up this wool sweater for my brother.

We shopped for two days and came home tired.
I have a barn block to embroidery, a wall hanging to finish hand quilting, so plenty to keep me busy.

This rug is so beautiful and has the best colors in it. She is from Springfield, came up for the day.

This is Nelda's, she just finished while at the shop Friday.

And Carolyn is about to finish up another one.

FYI for anyone living in the greater K.C. area. Kansas City Star Quilts is having a warehouse sale on over 50 different books Wed - Sunday 9-5 at 9012 Metcalf. They are going to have some 25 quilts there to see also of Edie McGinnis'.

I will be leaving home Thursday with a friend to go to my daughters and house and cat sit for a couple days. They are going to Austin, Texas for Valerie to compete in an International Taekwondo tournament. Hope to get to the warehouse sale, a couple quilt stores, and some different thrift stores.
Will let you know how it goes when I get back.

Sunday Morning

Yesterday was number two block of the month. We all worked hard and accomplished much.

Debbie has been working on a new quilt, and only has one border left to add.

Marie, one of our local long arm quilters brought in some wall hangings to show. These are so realistic.

Marsha brought her granddaughter Sydney and Sydney was making a pillow with her hand prints and a heart and her name on it. She worked very hard and steady.

This is one of our door prize winners. She won "jars of jelly" wall hanging.

I have some rug hooking pictures to show you since Friday was hooking day, but don't want this post to get to long so will show those tomorrow. But I have to show you lunch on Friday.

Patty and Debbie make the best salads with dried cranberries and marinated chicken and strawberry poppy seed dressing.
BUT, do you see the size of that crescent roll. It was about one and one half inches long. They know I am eating healthy so they didn't want me to get to much white flour. Aren't they funny. They did slip me a regular size roll, and yes I did partake.
See you all later time to ready myself for church, got up late, not going to make Sunday School.

Wednesday

This is how my house looked yesterday when I went to the shop.

I actually tried to knock it loose so it would slide on down, but it is frozen hard. So last night we got about 5 more inches. Every thing is pretty and white now.

While I was at the shop yesterday I acquired an extra January BOM that had already been put together. Now you know there is a story as to why the extra one. But, I am kinda like Duke the Bush's bean dog,"and I ain't tell". So I do think I will make a pillow out of it.

Bible study has been cancelled again this week. I know there is a reason besides snow that we keep getting pushed back each week. I have a theory but I claim" Duke " again.
Tomorrow is another day. Stay warm and safe.

What to say.

I don't know what is let to say about this snow that hasn't already been said. Now that we are all plowed out and all the snow is a mile high on the sides of the road and intersections it is still dangerous driving conditions.
I was on my way to S.S. and church this morning and just a little ways down the road from home and I saw this.

I haven't seen or made a snowman in I hate to think how many years. It brought joy and laughter to me, so on the way home I drove up in this drive way so I could take a picture of it. I don't think any children live there. It is the house of the auction I went to in the fall and I believe a single lady lives there now having bought it after she lost her home to fire. I met her once when I took cookies down to her. She must be young at heart.

This next picture is looking out one of my open bedroom windows up under the eve and the snow that is getting ready to side off the metal roof. It will land on the sidewalk and right in front of the garage doors. So we get to double shovel.

Nothing much else is going on , I have one more border to put on just one side of my 1800's fabric quilt and it is finished. I've made a pillow for my bed and another pincushion.

OH THAT STORM

Well, it is here. I measured about noon and we had 9 inches, but it hasn't even begun to slow down since then. Here are a couple shot out my bedroom window looking toward the lake and behind the garage at my blooming blue bottle bush.

Last Thursday I took my girlfriend up to St.Luke's on the Plaza because her pacemaker had switched over on safety, so it needed reset. We stopped at one of the largest quilt stores I have been in,Quilters Station in Lee's Summit. Our heads were swimming when we left their with things we wanted to make. Peggy did buy a quilt kit because she has another great grandchild coming in May. We stopped at our favorite thrift stores on the way home.
I found a sheep which I proceeded to drop when I got home and broke an ear and his muzzle off, but a little glue fixed it. I also found a tin chippy vase and a crochet top I will wear over something.

Have you seen these little bag that have pieces of retractable tape measure in the top so when you open them, they snap back.? I've made a couple of those for the craft table at the next quilt show at church.

They're fun to make and very useful in your sewing box to hold notions and other things(chocolate kisses).
I'll tell you tomorrow how much snow we have, I left the yard stick out in the yard, hope I can find it in the morning.
I hope everyone is staying warm and safe. Praying also no one losses power. We do not have the ice some of the rest of you have.

What Storm

Yes, we are suppose to get a big storm through the next two days.
I really kinda like them as long as we keep power. Lots of organizing gets done in my little sewing room, and even some sewing.
This is a wool applique quilt Saltbox sample. I do believe there will be kits ready when the girls go to The Gathering at Stover.

I like the sheep with the carrot and rabbit ears. Must have been for March or April.
Anyway, I have another baby quilt to go to the quilter, made from left overs.

So, that makes 3 to take out in the morning if the weather hasn't started yet.

Good Morning, first I would like to acknowledge my new followers. I get so excited when I scroll down my page and look at the puppy that is featured for the day and than I go on down and see I have new followers. I am thrilled I am almost at 70. Now compare to some that is a drop in the bucket, but I am thankful for everyone of you and I love your comments,advise, and encouragement. Thank you.

I have finished BOM #2 from 2010.

It is not my favorite, due to the colors, but for $1.00 a month it gave me something to do.
The last one I have to sash and border is 1800's fabric, I think I will like it much better.

I am also ready to start a new rug hooking project, this one is called Old Glory. I have had this pattern for quite some time and now need a project to work on when I go to Springfield hook in April.

So I am off to the shop to surge the table mat I just finished so I can get it bound.
The new bible study starts tonight, since we got snowed out last Wednesday. Excited for it to get started.

He is growing up

One of my favorite things to hook is mats. Sure helps to use up worms, plus I love the look. Right now I am just hooking one to use up scrap monk cloth and worms. But , I actually think I am going to make one for my kitchen table top which with all leaves out is about 39 x 40 oblong. I'm thinking I will love the look. Here is the little one I am working on now.

Here is my big bag full of worms I am working out of. These are the ones I have not color coordinated and rolled into balls.

There was a time that I could not leave wool worms out. They had to be contained with a lid or Bubba would snag a mouth full and take off running. Oh what fun he would have. But now he is much older and wiser.

He is almost as smart as my granddaughter. You know I have the smartest granddaughters in the world. Don't we all.

We are loaded with snow this morning. It is cold and beautiful.
Great day to not get dressed and quilt, and hook all day.

Yesterday

Well, yesterday didn't turn out like I had planned, but still it was a good day.

My husband decided to go along and drive so we took Bubba with us. My Dr. appt.was very quick, just had to get some ointment for some eczema I had developed on my leg. Than we picked up 50 lbs of sunflower seeds and than we hit KFC for hot wings and home.

I have managed to get one BOM together, but now I need to border it.

some day I am going to make a quilt for my husbands room and maybe some curtains. Funny how things just get let go for so long you think it looks normal.

I got my first BOM for 2011 done this week also.

I understand we are expecting much snow, starting tomorrow night. Just so it doesn't start before 8 p.m. so we can have our bible study at church.

Gotta hit the hay.

I CHOSE BROWN

I chose brown for my border color. I am much happier with it than the blue. I thank you all who commented, it does help to have others thoughts when you are trying to decide something.
I just don't have a good place to take pictures. This summer I am going to hang them on the chain link fence to take pictures. But than the fence is only 4 feet tall, oh never mind,don't need to worry about that yet.
So here it is.

What am I hooking you ask. A runner out of multiplying worms.They do that you know, if you leave them in a basket together for very long. I didn't take a picture of it tho.
I have been toying around with the idea of making one(table topper) for the top of my kitchen table. When it is just my husband and I and no leaves in the table it is about 39x41 inches. I think I would love a hooked mat that covered the whole top. Thinking, thinking.
Well, weather permitting I have a Dr. appt in the morning in Sedalia, so I might just hit big lots, Aldi's,Goody's, and a thrift store or two. But than again I might just come straight home after the appt. Whatever the mood says.
Starting a new bible study Wednesday night at church, Title of the study is "Me, myself, and Lies". I know it is going to be good when you start looking at our internal dialog.

Yes Snow

Yes, we finally got some snow. But it is really cold today, like 12 degrees.
I started a post last evening when I finished the center of my Winter Berry Blossoms quilt. Here is the picture.

See anything wrong? Like a poor little flower with not one single leaf. Amazing how I can look at the quilt on the wall and not see it, but than take a picture and put it on a blog and it is as plain as the nose on my face. So I deleted my post last night and fixed it and added the borders.

I love the outer border fabric, but I'm not loving the blue.

Even tho there is blue in the outer border, the blue border just doesn't do it for me. I'm thinking the red or brown that is used on the flowers would work better.
What do you all think??.
Right now I am snowed in and can't get to the shop, but hopefully Thursday or Friday I will make it.

The New Year.

Gosh, I feel like I am doing a stutter step trying to get this new year started.
I am working on a new quilt, but not enjoying the applique part of it. It is fabric on fabric and I much prefer wool on fabric. Will show you pictures soon I hope.
Here are a couple pictures of some of the extra embellishments one of the gals put on her "Across the Wide Missouri" quilt.

She put bittersweet on the left side of her cabin, and tiny flowers in a window box, and a couple oak leaves floating to the ground.

Now, I pretty much have my projects lined up for the first half of this year, but you know how things sneak up on you . I have loved this pattern for a year at least and Bev came in from Ozark Tuesday with hers ready to be quilted. Well, when I saw it I knew I had to squeeze it in some place. Probably right after my sister trip. Love this Maggie quilt.

Well, Tai Chi started and I haven't made it to one class. There is too much going on and I want to do it all.

Tomorrow my husband will be 83 years old. We are doing the birthday cake with his oldest daughter, her husband, and another couple this evening, so today has been busy with making the cake and cleaning.

Tomorrow is open hooking and shop garage sale, Patty is gone one a business trip with her husband, so the mice will play.

New Year , New Day

Well, here we are in the new year. Off to a cold start. Yesterday it was in the 60's here in Missouri and this morning it is 18.
Thought I would show you how I got my "Melvin" rug done so fast. I had lots, and lots of help.

He knows a little bit about everything don't ya know.

Well, the shop has been closed since December 19th and some of us were having withdrawals pretty bad, so Patty called an intervention for yesterday so we could all regroup and refocus for the new year.

Deanna is working on her chicken rug. This picture is kinda dark but her chickens has big dots on them. They are so cute.

Bev E was sashing and bordering a BOM quilt. It is striking.

We also use Fridays as garage sale day. If you want to bring something to get rid of you can and we draw numbers to see who shops first.

Here is a shots of the table. Some things have already been taken, I was having so much fun I almost forgot to take a picture at all.
I was number 8 to shop and came home with this.

My husband a chiefs hat and me a knife holder. I know my grandmother had one just like this.

We are never with dogs or puppies of some kind at the shop.

I have finished the top to another baby quilt for church.

Fast and easy, tutorial was on Moda's web site.

Also about half way done with the binding on" Melvin" my most recent wool hooked rug.

I have 2 more blocks to applique and I will be ready to start setting the 3 BOM from last year together.

I already have a list of things I want to make in 2011 and most of them require trips to my sisters.
Karmen we need to plan a summer sewing soiree.

Ok I still hear sugar cookies calling my name, sure will be happy when they are gone. Joan do you want some?

Just had to show you what I found today.
I had to go to Lincoln to pick up my last finishing kit for one of the three BOM's . So naturally I had to visit my favorite thrift store.
Look at all the fabric in this XL Eddie Bauer dress. Perfect red and green plaid. I'm thinking maybe table cloth for next year. Who knows what it will turn into. Forgot to tell you I gave $3.00 for it. Pretty cheap fabric.

My kids were here yesterday and home safe, so it will be pretty quiet around here this week end.

We aren't fancy but we have fun.

Yes, the table service is plastic. We have to much to do in one day, so we don't want to waste time on washing dishes.

This is the first Christmas in all my life I have not gained a pound. Moderation. Of course tomorrow's meal is not over yet.

Block of the Month 2011

Just wanted to show you the BOM for the coming year.

It is titled "Flowers" by Linda Brannock.
We are full up for the year and are all excited to start it.

I am off to one more Dr. appointment this morning for blood tests and results of my bone scan hoping Dr. will tell me not to come back for at least 6 months. I appreciate the fact that they keep a really close watch for any other cancers but I do get tired of all the appointments. Guess I should be grateful I have health care.

So I will talk to you later.
It is 32 degrees and suppose to be 52 today so I guess I will get the rest of my grocery shopping done. I think the kids are coming tomorrow. There has been a death on my X's side of the family my kids will be attending the services, so they are just waiting for arrangements to be announced.

Shop Party

I sure hope Patty got some good pictures at the shop party because most of mine came out dark. Don't know why other than maybe it was as my batteries were failing, because I did have to change them once.
We had 25 gals there and more food than we could eat of course.
I do think I got a couple good rug pictures tho.

Elizabeth's rug is just beautiful, I believe this is from a rug camp in Mississippi she attended awhile back.

This Santa had the curliest beard from wool the rughooker brought back from England. Sorry I can't remember her name but she and two others gals drove quite a distance to come spend the day in Warsaw at the Saltbox . We so enjoyed having them.

Another beautiful rug from one of the gals who drove a good distance to come to the Saltbox, whose name escapes me.

We had such a great time, gifts when around and around if you have every play the game we did, you know you can either open a gift or take one from someone . After much "stealing" this is what I ended up with.

Here is our little Sidney trying on part of her Christmas gift from Sharyn. Those two have really come to love each other.

Guess that is all for now.
Next post I will show you the BOM we will begin in January. I think I have shown you the pattern but we do have a shop sample made that is so neat.

Orange Slice Cookie Recipe

I had a couple requests for the Orange Slice Cookie recipe, so here goes.

1 cup brown sugar
1 cup white sugar
1 cup shortening (I used 1/2 shortening 1/2 butter
2 eggs

Mix all the above together until nice and creamy, than add

2 cups flour
1tsp baking soda
1tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp salt

add to mixture that your just creamed.

than add
2 cups oatmeal
1 cup coconut
1 cup chopped up orange slices
1 tsp vanilla.

I used a small ice cream dipper so it made pretty good sized cookies, but you can decide on the size.
bake 350 degrees until slightly brown.
With my dipper this recipe made about 4 1/2 dozen.

We had a party today at the shop will tell you more about it tomorrow.

Don't you love the Christmas season.?
Reconnecting with old friends, good food, cookie baking.
Yesterday was cookie baking day for me after I got home from my mammogram.

I was mixing cookie dough and had the oven warming up, and I noticed a little fire in the oven. Thinking I must have something spilled on the element I turned the oven off. Thinking if it is something spilled on it just turn it back on and let it burn itself off the element. Right, Wrong!!! it would not heat up again. So my dear husband who is good at "getting things taken care of" made a call and $108.00 later we have cookies.

These have chopped up orange slice candy,coconut, and oatmeal in them. I was first introduced to this recipe in 1961 by my MIL, they have always been a favorite.

So today, I am off to another Dr. appt. than a girlfriend and I are headed on up to Marshall to find a little place called Square Corner, they sell the mixes we bought at the Higginsville craft show and they were so good, we are after more.

Have a great day. We have started out at 25 degrees, that about 15 degrees warmer than yesterday morning.
